BIO

Bianca was born in 1985 in Petrosani/RO, grew up in Austria, and is currently working and living in Vienna.

As an artist, Bianca creates canvas sculptures using the technique of assemblage and a deliberate choice of different materials and mediums. This pairing has been described as 'walking the line between canvas and sculpture'.

The work takes on a new perspective of assemblage art by using the expansion into the 3rd dimension as an integral part of conveying the topic of each individual piece. Ultimately, the aim is to take the viewer beyond the ‘viewer’ standpoint defined by a flat surface, and to offer new and different angles, so that the viewer becomes an expansion of the artwork.

The artist is primarily influenced by current events and a drive to explore the fine line between
the individuum and societal and/or systemic corsets as a result ofmass phenomena.

Bianca Ion holds degrees in architecture from the Vienna University of Technology, and the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, U.K., and has been advancing her artistic practice
continuously.
